General Motors Fined for Cover Up

GM-Ignition-SwitchGeneral Motors will pay a $900 million fine to the federal government to settle criminal charges related to its ignition switch system. Those flaws have been tied to 124 deaths and GM has admitted its employees knew of the problem for more than 10 years before it told the public by recalling millions of cars. The Justice Department disclosed the settlement on Thursday, September 17, 2015. Federal regulations require automakers to notify NHTSA within five days of discovery of a safety defect.

No employees of General Motors were individually charged and many victims are upset over that. Relatives of victims think that automobile executives need to be held accountable and especially in situations like this where problems were hidden and not reported.

Patterson Legal Group litigates automobile product liability cases and finds the litigation both challenging and rewarding. It is difficult to litigate against some of the largest corporations in the world, but rewarding to help our clients receive justice.
