Punitive Damages

Punitive Damages /ˈpjunətɪv ˈdæmɪdʒ/

A form of damages awarded to plaintifs that are intended to deter further misconduct by the defendant. Punitive damages are not strictly measured by the actual injury suffered by the plaintiff.
