Claims administrator

The term used by insurance companies and others involved in processing an injury compensation claim.

Auto accident cases: Claims administrators are generally employed directly by an insurance company and work to balance the interests of the insurance company against the interests of the person filing a claim.

Workers compensation cases: Generally, claims administrators are employed by insurance companies or third-party administrators who handle claims for employers. In some cases, claims administrators work directly for large employers that handle their own claims.

Also referred to as: claims adjuster; or claims examiner.
